The company located in Pittsfield Massachusetts has internship openings for the Mechanical Engineering Design and Manufacturing department to assist with the company increasing line of products and production.

Position Summary:

Provide engineering support towards the design, development, validation and testing and manufacturing of products.


Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform Mechanical Design Engineering roles.

      - Design parts from concept to final product using SolidWorks.

      - Provide and implement design solutions to part constraints.

      - Create and manage product drawings.

      - Verify Designs for accuracy.

      - Create Bill of materials.

      - Build and test prototypes.

- Perform Quality Engineering Roles.

      - Verify parts design for accuracy and ensure they adhere to company and customer specifications.

      - Implement controls to measure and verify products function properly.

      - Determine and implement product capability indeces (Cpk) for manufacturing.

- Perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

      - Run FEA analysis for new or updated parts.

      - Analyze data, identify areas of concern, implement design changes to mitigate non-conforming areas, improve design and document results.

      - Provide reports showing areas of concern. Implement changes and solutions to contain strain and fatigue within a safe zone.

- Design experiments, analysis, collect data and perform verification tests to certify new parts function correctly as intended.

- Provide engineering support during the manufacturing process. Implement mechanisms to ensure quality. Interact with manufacturers and suppliers.

- Create training material and provide training to new employees joining the department.

- Write procedures to perform validation tests. Establish measuring criteria methods. Keep company validation check guidelines up to date.

- Design and write reports for management and customers to back up product design.


Skills / Qualifications:

- BS degree in engineering, preferred Mechanical, Aerospace or related discipline, 2+ years experience.

- SolidWorks experience.

- ANSYS FEA (Finite Element Analysis).

- Familiar with Mold Design and Fabrication is a plus.

- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Must have a strong attention to details.

- Strong Mechanical design and creative mindset.

- Leadership skills and team player.

- Highly organized.

- Strong written, verbal, time management and interpersonal skills.

- Familiar with 3D printing.

- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

- Ability to analyze and propose approaches to resolve technical issues.

- Ability to write specifications and protocols for the development, testing and qualification of new components and parts.

This intern will be working under senior engineers and will take an active role on an ongoing project doing Finite Element Analysis, CAD work design, and reiterations based on analysis feedback. The intern will have the opportunity to further develop a variety of CAD design and project management skills. Furthermore, the intern will also have mentorship and access to prototyping machinery.

Position Description

United Aircraft Technologies is hiring an Electronics/Systems Engineer for our Pittsfield, MA site. In this role you will work with small-scale electronic systems and circuits. You will have an opportunity to apply theories and principles to both simple and complex work in research and development including the design, product characteristics and documentation necessary to produce the design in quantity. In addition to using tools to aid in the design and re-design of products, this role will also require ensuring electronic systems and circuits comply with the relevant and latest regulations. As an Electronics/Systems Engineer, you will have an opportunity to work cross functionally with software developers and mechanical engineers, as well as with manufacturing to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to pilot run. If you are an innovative and driven engineer who can conceptualize ideas and create designs based on these ideas, this job is for you!

Essential Functions:

- Research & Evaluation: Evaluate existing electronic devices and equipment for re-design based on issues raised by customers, vendors, or internal team, as well as cost-saving opportunities. Assess functions to determine whether new electronic product would enhance existing product line or provide additional function for customers. Collect data on electrical products through reports, testing and customer information.

- Production Processing: Work with production processes, suggest changes to improve efficiencies. Coordinate activities surrounding line or range of products, following product from design through production. Organize activities to support new production introductions.

- Customer Design: Develop project timelines and product cost comparisons, select materials, commercial parts, and technical data.

- Design: Design new and/or re-design existing electronic product line. Produce designs, complex layouts, assemblies, detail parts list drawings on both the CAD system and printed circuit board software. Generates associated bills of materials and ensure designs support cost effectiveness.

- Testing: Coordinate all product test activities. Build and test prototypes. Follow up appropriately in correcting Works with QA to ensure quality and ISO standards are met.

- Quality: Follow ISO guidelines regarding design and production of new/revised electronic products. Assist manufacturing and quality control in correcting any problems encountered in the machine shop or on the assembly floor.

- Warranty Information: Work with cross functional teams in engineering to understand and communicate relevant warranty information to plant personnel and coordinates warranty reduction efforts at the plant level.

- Other responsibilities as assigned or required.

- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.

Experience Required:

- 3+ years of experience required, preferably in New Product Development, small-scale electronic systems, and circuits (analog/digital design). Experience with temperature sensors a plus.

- Experience with Printed Circuit Board design, prototype, and test of microcontroller-based system.

- Proficient in systems development, python, and C/C++ language programming. Software development is a requirement.

- Performance/design calculations.

- Ability to interface with staff at all levels in corresponding departments i.e., Procurement, Manufacturing, Shipping, Sales & Marketing, etc. as well as with customers.

- Experience in the design development of electronic systems, radio communications, wifi, and BLE technologies.

- Excellent communication, creativity and problem-solving skills required.

- Experience working with or manipulating templates in InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator.

- Design various graphics elements to be used in videos such as lower thirds, titles, infographics, etc.

- Experienced designing various UI/UX elements for web pages and mobile applications.


Skills / Qualifications:
